Put in the ground now... Or later?

I started a redbud from seed in the fall, inside. It is now about 5 inches tall. I would like to plant this tree in upstate NY, however, I got the seed for it in central FL. I will be going to NY this summer and am wondering if I should plant it now, or wait until next summer.
