what did you plant under them ...

maple is one of the absolute worst trees to try to garden under..

if you dont believe me.. talk to the peeps in the hosta forum ... they may have ideas to work in that spot ....

to think that some little transplant.. can compete with that 60 foot monster.. well .. good luck with that..

you can find things that can cope ... but it will take a lot of trial and error ...

Hi ken - I've read your posts before. That's actually what tipped me off that my plants were fighting an uphill battle under there. And I read them after I had planted them!

I planted a couple kinds of hostas, astilbe. Heuchera, bleeding heart, and begonias,creeping Jenny,and a couple pots of Columbine. The previous owners had pachysandra but it was a little patchy, as well as an unknown bush, and some juniper.

I'm trying to just keep the whole area watered and fertilized. We have mulch coming this weekend.
