I'm so jealous. My honeylocust is being removed tomorrow. Last year, it had one branch that never got leaves that was trimmed off in January. Never even budded this spring. The county extension guy came out because I was worried about my other trees (two more that look exactly like the honeylocust but no blooms or long curly beans.

It's better than losing an oak- Mr. Burr is my favorite. But I am still pretty bummed.

I bought this house 2 years ago and even though the house was not my favorite, the trees made me fall in love. I have the best trees in my little West Texas town. Most trees are butchered and massacred around here. Which I find really strange- it seems like they would be valued because there are so few!

Now I am paranoid as heck about the others. The more I read, the more paranoid I get. The honey locust is being removed with a 60ft cherry picker to keep the soil uncompacted.

County extension guy was not comforting. He said, "This is the high plains; there are no native trees. No matter how much you coddle them- they're doomed. Whatever happened to that locust, happened 2-3 years ago and could have also happened to the rest of them".

My 35 foot honeylocust has a load of fragrant flowers too. The number of pollinators working them is impressive -- from tiny wasps & bees to honeybees to large bumblebees & wasps. I can hear the "buzz" when it's quiet.

There is another tree I am seeing but can't figure out what the leaves are. It's because I was driving. It's everywhere but I can't stop since there are no shoulders. The flower is like from wisterias about 7 inches long from my estimate. It's color white. I think the leaves are also like from Honeylocust.

Btw, I'm in my patio right now and behind me is my honeylocust tree. I love the sweetness especially it's like 65f right now and a very good amount of breeze! :)
