Clerodendron trichotomum...how far is safe enough?

This is known to sucker; if you plant it in a lawn, away form any beds, you're just going to mow them with the lawn and they won't be a problem. What's really annoying is getting them in a bed.

I've seen Robinia suckers an astonishing distance away from a huge tree that was cut down. 60-70'. I've read somewhere that Clerodendron can go 40'. Does that sound about right?

I've never seen it go nearly that far in one spurt.

The size of the plant is relative - Clerodendron trichotomum is much more shrub-like than tree-like and one exceeding 20' in height would be unusual. It would be equally unusual to have them sucker at that far a distance. I've seen them about 15' from the mother plant but that's as far as I'd guess unless one left the suckers to grow into a secondary colony.
