I saw your post earlier, nobody has guessed yet. I will take a guess. Once I do this someone else will surely join in. Hopefully they are more educated than I am. My guess is 1) sunscald? 2) growth crack? 3) canker? Likely 1 or 2, but I am guessing. Hopefully it isn't a bad thing, in the long run.

Bacterial canker...you will find that it gets progressively worse and your tree's health will decline...

It could be an injury. Looks like it happened some time ago and is 'healing' nicely.

we need to ID the tree...

if it is fruit.. and bears a lot of fruit .. that spot will fail ... if not today.. some time over the decades ... gotta think in terms of tree years.. when dealing with structure ...

a pic of the whole would help ... looks like a large crossing branch had previously been removed.. but the tree doesnt look large enough for such ...

its an injury .... i would prune such out ... even if its the main leader ...

but it surely doesnt mean the tree is dying ...

if .. with better pix.. we cant ID it.. then try the name that plant forum .. but i bet the peeps here can do it ...

its not sun scald.. nor a growth crack .... and whether or not it has canker... that did not cause the original insult to the structural integrity of the branch ... at this point.. its a structural flaw .. IMHO ...
