they prefer a more acidic soil but you can amend the soil you have with sulphur. Growth rate is pretty slow, less than a foot per year.

OK, not good on both counts. It's too bad since it's a really nice tree to grow.

I agree it is a nice and very polite tree. If you decide to give it a try I would go for a locally sourced tree for superior cold hardiness and main species not a this or that cultivar unless you find one that claims to be suited for your area.

Nursery by me has great prices for four foot trees in couple gallon pots. For less than a tank of gas I can experiment. Only loss is time.
