Lol. Optical illusion I suppose. I guess its 8 foot is wide cars and box trucks and the septic tank truck all stay on the pavement no problem. From the street to the corner of the house is ~ 220 feet.

Is that your Shingle oak? You really lucked out. I have read that shingle oaks have smaller diameter branches per feet of tree height compared to some other oaks, but it would've surely inflicted some damage on a car or roof.

Yes that sure is my Shingle oak. I think the ol boy is really just past his prime but ya never know. I removed some competition from its life a couple years back and now it is sprouting some small branches on the east / house side of the trunk.

I am lucky nothing worse happened but some of that is by design. Notice none of them trees overhang my house. When I moved in there were three big wide white ash providing excellent shade and fall color. One day while I was at work the one in back dropped a branch that had to be twice as thick across my driveway and over another Japanese maple.

Somehow that maple was not smashed and luckily neither was my junk car or my garage and Mustang, house or me!

So very much by design as soon as I saw any seams forming in them ash tree trunks they were gone. It sure hurt to lose all that fall color and the feel of the place changed but last week it might have saved me a home repair or worse.
