It makes me think of air pollution damage. I've taken a couple of workshops focusing on the assorted effects of different pollutants....enough to make me aware of what these air borne chemicals can do to many different kinds of vegetation. IDing problems from one leaf can be a challenge.

Any tree locally with pigments other than green located within leaves has had the pigments greatly exaggerated this year. I believe it is related to the wet and cool conditions that have persisted since the time they initiated their growth for the year. Green ash trees are very purple, several oaks are red, my species nyssa is VERY red, some maples are red/purple as are several dogwoods etc. I wonder if abundant moisture and some sunshine allowed maximum sugar production in the leaves then the cool conditions caused the sugars in the leaves to concentrate more heavily at a susceptible time in the leaf maturation process thereby holding additional color pigments from the sugars in the leaves. Just conjecture!!

This is normal (relatively speaking) in the spring. They'll green up. Trees down here do the same thing in the early spring some years.
