Rose of Sharon - Hibiscus syriacus. Sometimes called Althea as well. It's really more of a shrub than a tree, but they can be trained to a small tree form.

For me, they get kinda ugly with age. Nice when young, but do not age well.

It's a Rose of Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus). As you can see from the latin name, it's closely related to the tender Hibiscus.

i belive the latin is hibiscus ... of some sort

ps: its hilarious.. that the sidewalk is leaning the same way ... and they almost appear perpendicular ...
