Small tree

Hello,

I'm looking for some not very large tree to plant 2 or 3 along the fence. Our backyard is not very deep (20") and I think big shade tree like maple or linden will overpower it. On the other hand I would like to have some trees. I think trees make backyards feel much nicer. So i would really appreciate any suggestion.

Meanwhile I was thinking about serviceberry trees. They are native, provide some flowers in spring and nice color in fall. They are delicate. Do they have enough leaves though? The young ones I saw in a nursery looked more like sticks with a few leaves. How fast do they grow? And when they mature - will it be only more branches with a few leaves on each or more leaves too? And I see mostly canadiens or autumn brilliance in our area (Toronto). Which one is better and why? With young trees they both look pretty much the same.

Thank you for any reply for my post!
