| In this case, they are mature pines. It is a grouping (far from anything structural, btw) of pines and several are severely leaning. One, is huge and is the one I fear the most about but they all have been there a long time, we have lived here 12 years, and had ice storms, wind storms, etc. yet they remain. Dh doesn't want to spend the money to take them out when they are fine. If one falls over, he will then remove it.
I have made this area my camellia garden and while I haven't planted anything new in five years, I don't want to lose the ones I have there (about 15). I also have a swing in the area. I don't water there nor mulch but I do occasionally spray round up on little weeds and may add some more plants - I have azaleas in the area too. Anyway, just wondering if I should press the case... |

| Eh, ask for tree removal for your birthday. Or trade him season tickets to his sports addiction of choice. Barter it away- use your feminine wiles, LOL. If you dedicate yourself to the cause he will cave eventually. |
|
| I have bad news for you. All trees eventually fall down. :-) |
|
| I was resisting saying that, Calliope ;-) |
|
| Leaning trees does not always fall. Watch the edge between forest and cropland, there are always trees there leening out in the sun. Same with trees growing along waterways. Trees that have grown leaning throughout their lives are safe, it's worse if they suddenly start to tilt when they are already large. |
|
| Some trees lean forward, then grow straight. They are good. Some trees lean forward, keep that way for very long. Then the weight just pulls them down. We have seen the downed trees along waterways. Of course, soil corrosion plays some role in that. |

| Thanks for the replies! I also don't really want to spend the money - there are things that have a higher priority- but if it's needed, then I think we should. The main tree leans considerably then grows straight. I'll try and get some pictures posted. Thanks again! |

| You know, if any are in immediate danger to your home and house I would probably get them down. A replaced roof at 10-20k is a lot cheaper than taking out a tree for 1-2k. Or even a DIY 2-3k roof, "not even considering damage from snow or water inside the home". Some people say, that what insurance is for, what if it falls on your head, or is struck by lighting and blows out your fuse box? I live in east texas and it drives me nuts, people planting sweet gum, maple, pine, Live, red, and pin oaks 5 feet from their house. Five houses down they have a 20 year live oak thats split between the power lines. 3 housed down there is a huge 60-70 foot pine leaning heavily over a house. Arborist/tree removers make a killing here, A serious killing. |

| They are not near the house and are leaning away from the road power lines. I cannot see them from the house at all. The only damage they might do is fall on my camellias. And it will be a big mess to clean up. |
