Is mushroom edible?

The tree is probably sugarberry (Celtis laevigata).

Not sure on the fungus, other than that it's a polypore and looks somewhat deteriorated. Probably not edible.

that type of fungus ... at height.. usually means a very significant large historical wound .. with associated interior rotting ...

of which i can NOT see on this pic ...

one might suggest you dont rely on WWW strangers to define what you insert in your mouth and eat ...

if you want to play with shrooms.. i suggest you find a local club or such.. and learn about them ...

BTW... these type of fungi.. are very woody ... i highly doubt they would be palate friendly .;..
