Purchased a 6' hornbeam fastigiata in mid-May and planted it. The new leaf shoots are withering and appear as if something is attacking. No sign of aphids but many ants up and down trunk. Also, inner mature leaves are yellowing; outer leaves fine. Have clay soil but tree was packed (rootball) in clay as well. It had a very small rootball. Any ideas what the problem might be?
