Lost 3 Trees, Need Suggestions for replacements

Greetings All,
New to the site. We lost three trees this past winter due to blizzard damage. We want to plant two new ones this fall. Our local forester for the city gave us her recommendations below:
Emerald sunshine elm
frontier elm
green vase zelkova
sugar maples
shantung maple
Imperial honeylocust, or other thornless variety
oak, swamp white
Our requirements are that we want good shade tree but want our lawn to flourish and not die off due to too much shade or large surface roots.
That being said our initial thoughts are the Imperial Honeylocst and Emerals sunshine elm. My wife really wants a Maple but I am afraid of the density of the tree and surface roots killing off the grass.

soil type...

and ... hmmm... that ought to get us going...

i like oak .... but i wonder about the rest of her list ....

and BTW.. how old are you.. maple roots arent going to be an issue for 20 to 30 years... is that really a reason not to placate wifey ???? ..

[i mean really.. she could kill you in your sleep in that time frame.. and still have time to plant her maple.. you better think that part out .. lol ..]

do you have any plans to garden under the trees.. other than lawn?????

Hi Ken,
Sorry should have provided a bit more information. These will be for our front yard. I am 44, and while any smart man will tell you to be happy keep wifey happy, I also have a great lawn I work hard at and don't want it destroyed at base of tree, some roots acceptable though.

We live in Kansas. We have a pin oak in our back yard...what is your experience with acorn droppings and their effect on lawn?
No plans to Garden under tree as this is in front yard.
