your logic is failing. .in that you think EAB wont come back and kill it again ..

exactly why do you want an ash.. in EAB country ???

and of course its growing like the weed it is.. it has an UNDISTURBED root mass for a mature tree ...'

snip off the sprouts.. drip 100% round up on the cut.. and keep doing it.. until the root mass dies..

and while you are doing this.. go buy anything but an ash ... [except anything that claims to be fast growing ]

I wouldn't bother trying to regrow an Ash where you are. Columbus is highly infested w/EAB...it's not a matter of if, but WHEN the new tree/sprout would be attacked.

The responses were helpful in that they said ash is doomed in an EAB area. There’s no way of changing that and there’s no point in trying.

If you don’t have EAB in your area ash will regrow all by itself without any intervention from you. Its ability to regenerate from a stump is the basis of its traditional use in coppiced forestry. It can supply ash poles for centuries given planned and regular cutting.
