Yah, that might be it. They want $20 just to examine photos of possible diseased trees. Ain't gonna happen. The area is right in the center of the red area for this disease in Wisconsin. Probably not much I can do with all the other Oaks in the area. I am thinking about taking out some of the bigger ones in the yard and replacing them with others varieties any way.

I'm not saying it ISN'T wilt, but it doesn't SEEM like it. Wilt usually has splotchy leaves that are brown away from the base. You might check some other possible diagnosis here:

Do the leaves end up with brown splotches? You can diagnose oak wilt by looking at the dead twigs and branches

In both red and white oaks, the outer ring of springwood vessels will be plugged with brown material (tyloses and gums) and streaks of brown may be obvious on the outside of the wood. The vascular discoloration is most easily seen in cross sections of infected branches of white oaks (Figure 3), and less readily observed in affected red oak branches.

I'd suggest sending the pics to the extension office. The service is free and if it isn't in your county then just use Waukesha county. They will give you direction and if you want confirmation you will have to pay to test it.

I don't think you have wilt but if the ext office thinks you do, you might want to pony up to confirm. It will wipe out stands of oaks as the disease is easily spread from one oak to another either by interconnecting roots and from insects.

From what you're telling us with multiple trees being effected and slowly dieing you might want to take this a bit more seriously and ditch GW for advice...hmm...maybe you shouldn't be taking mine... and get a professional involved on site.

I've never seen Oak Wilt in person (thank goodness) but this doesn't look like the pics I've seen.

However I agree - this doesn't look good.

Seems creepy since it does not seem like oak wilt. Esox, if you figure it out let us know. I am always curious about things like this. Also, if ya can snap a pic of a whole tree or something I would be interested not that I think I can help.

Just checked Oak Tatters and I don't think that is it. It says it primarily affects white oaks. The pictures I posted above are Red Oak, I beleive. There are other differences as well.

Actually, those leaves look like White Oak.
