Can you explain how to move this 5ft pine tree away from fence

I have a pine tree that is i guess about 2 years old. It is growing right next to a chain link fence and the trunk grew through the bottom link and started growing on the side of the fence. With the bottom inch of the trunk being on the other side of the fence, how can i dig it up ad move it to another area in my yard?

Also, if you are curious, yes the tree on the other side of the fence fell onto that house.

Sounds like you'll have to cut the fence enough to free it, then dig it up to transplant like any other tree. And then patch the fence back up if you need to. Hope it's yours... Of course the tree if left there will eventually destroy the fence anyways.

The only way I've been successful at transplanting pines is to wait until the middle of winter, when it's cold, rainy, and soggy, and gently dig and pull. If the soil is soupy enough it'll come up fairly easily, taproot and all.

they sell them for about a buck a piece on arbor day ... or at arbor day ...

i dont know if i would invest a few hours of back breaking labor to move it ...

but its a great one to TRY ... and if you kill it.. dont beat yourself up about it ...

do it in early spring.. or fall ... warmish days... cool nights...

dig a circle about 3 feet out from it... loosen the soil ... until the plant nearly gives way.. just lightly tugging on it..

if it has a tap root.. work the soil away.. and CUT IT.. its just another root ...

then rip it out.. and keep the roots moist.. while you dig a hole the roots will fit in ...

i will yell..ITS GROWING IN NATIVE SOIL ... so.. replant it in native soil ... and keep it PROPERLY WATERED for two years .. see link ... no amendments.. no fert.. no nothing but water ...

as an inexperienced pine person.. i give you 90% odds on success ...

its a freakin weed tree [thats why its where it is] ... you will have to work very hard.. to mess it all up ... and you only have two variables to perfect.. TIMING.. and WATER ...

do not plant it within 30 feet of the house.. its what i call a telephone pole tree.. someday.. it will be a telephone pole ...

Wish you good luck...it is amazing how trees can eat up chain link fencing. These trees are near my son's friends house...crazy!

This one amazes me. The top rail of the fence was swallowed by the growth habit of this tree.

Glad you noticed yours before it got to this point.
