Advice needed for JM 'Crimson Queen'

I've had this Japanese Maple for about 8 years. I bought it mature size, it was probably 5' x 5' at the time. It has done wonderfully thru the years with very little need to prune. Last year we sold our home and took this with us. We moved to a slightly colder zone and the tree made it thru a Maine winter alive, but it clearly needs time to adjust. This early spring, when it was budding, I pruned back what looked dead. Now as the leaves are opening, which it's doing slowly in stages, I can see that there are many fine branches throughout the tree that have no leaves. I thought I'd be conservative and leave them alone this year, perhaps the tree needs time to adjust to new environment and next year these branches may sprout leaves. What do you think? Many of these branches are scattered in the middle of the tree, so I'm concerned about creating a bald area. I've attached a photo, but It may be hard to see the bare branches... I hope it helps. Thanks!
