Ginko Sucker question

I planted a Ginko tree 3 years ago. Last summer the tree got sun scorched and seemed to die. The main shoot is still very dead, but several suckers have started coming up from the root. Should I cut down the original (dead) shoot and select the strongest looking sucker? Or, should I leave it alone until the suckers start to become woody? Would a sucker make a viable tree?

yes it will ...

but it will depend on whether it was a grafted plant.. as to whether you will have the same ginkgo ..

Sounds like 50/50 chance of a female tree, assuming not grafted or if it was, that the sucker is coming off root stock. Be mindful of potential down the road for a female producing seeds with a fleshy coating, said to smell like carrion.
