| Produces the 'wood of choice' for folks who hand-craft archery bows. Hence the common name given by the French, bois d'arc - which has become 'bodock' or 'bodark', as some call it. Can also be used as rootstock for the edible Che fruit aka Mandarin melon berry - Cudrania tricuspidata. |

| When allowed to grow as a tree form, instead of hedging, it actually makes a rather attractive specimen if you don't mind the vicious thorns or large seed balls under it when they shed. There are some thornless and also seedless(male) selections available to the trade. They're relatively easy to propagate. I chilled mine along with some fruit pits over the winter months and they germinated quite readily in spring under g'house conditions. I have eight of them I'll be planting toward the periphery of the property, just because I likes 'em and they are a familiar site of my childhood one doesn't see so much anymore. |
