Holds in Weeping Willow

My two year old beautiful Weeping Willow has three holds in the trunk of it with something black surrounding the holds. The tree doesn't look to be in any kind of distress yet, but I want to treat the problem before it damages the Willow. Would somebody tell me what this is? I have included two pictures. I don't want to lose my tree, I am desperate. Thanks.

My guess is you had a wood boring insect (e.g. willow borer) and a woodpecker came along and ate the larvae?

Thank you!!. That is exactly what it is. I seem the adult borers in the willow, but didn't pay any attention. I will treat my tree with Dominion 2 L.

No reason to use a termite killer on a live tree.

Also, you have a bad pruning cut in the pic. You should prune back to the branch collar which is the slight flare before the branch meets the trunk.
