The fact that your tree has multiple leaf shapes makes this easy to ID. You have the noxious, introduced weed called White Mulberry Morus alba its worth noting that the fruit is not always white.

That is exactly what the search I figured was the most accurate said as well.

And it makes sense, since there was, at one point about 15 years ago, some very extensive landscaping done to the yard---when the property was owned by a professional landscaper.

For six or so years between the landscaper and our owning the property, it was almost completely neglected and literally trashed.

i dont understand your comment that this was a highly landscape garden ...

this plant came out the back end of a bird .. from a horribly tree in the area ...

as a seedling it is about 20 to 30 feet too close to the house ...

and if you encourage it.. there is a good chance.. when it starts to berry.. that the birds will be bombing your car and house with red/purple poops ...

this is NOT a good tree for suburbia .... unless you fully understand the ramifications ....

this is not some ornamental foo foo landscape plant.. this is a thug .. as you already admitted.. it is a volunteer ... [of which, the only i can think of would be those weeping mulberry on standards.. that are all to common on the corner of houses ....]

get rid of it .. or at least move it ... in fall...
