| On my cherry tree, I'm getting hundreds of huge long black expanded distortions on each branch that makes sections of the branch about 10 times thicker and all gnarly and horrible looking. The tree is about eight years old, but the plums are stills one-half the size of a normal plum when fully matured, and I believe whatever this is, may be making the plums stay smaller in size.
To see a photo showing a branch of my cherry tree with its terrible black distortions and knots, please click on the LINK titled "Photo of my tree branch with black swellings" found at http://s642.photobucket.com/albums/uu141/ssly3333/?action=view¤t =Pic-CherryTree-Gnarlydistortedswollen.jpg Do you think my tree has Black Knot Fungus or could it be bugs infesting it? Are they beetles? I remember my ex-wife in the past putting beetle bait traps below the cherry tree and catching like 50 beetles! But I don't think beetles could be that small. What's your opinion? Thank you so much for your forth-coming advice and for your time. |

| The image on here is classic black knot. I tried going to the page but only got the same image, and the rest seem to be the dead boxwoods from another thread. If this photo is from your tree, yes, it has a bad case of black knot. |

| i will yell.. JUST GET RID OF IT ... i dont care what you do.. you will not solve this problem.. its endemic to plums [and many other prunus] ... both ornamental.. and fruit ... there are types that are SUPPOSEDLY resistant [note ONLY resist] ... if you are looking to produce fruit.. i would suggest the fruit forum.. as those peeps have methods.. and suppliers.. that us tree peeps do not ... [mostly info on better varieties] you might also want to talk to your county extension office.. as to how prevalent the problem is.. in your area ... and if you you are in a bad area.. it wont matter if you 'fix' your tree.. because it will repeatedly become reinfected.. if its a big problem.. in your county ... IMHO.. its not worth the chemical pollution.. to 'fix' an UNFIXABLE problem .. ken |
