I have the most beautiful, massive, White Oak (80+ years old) that I spent a tremendous amount of effort to save during new (1+ year ago) construction (kept vehicles away, put in French drain so that excavation around house would not have to be as extensive, etc....). Yesterday I had an ISA certified arborist over to look at some trees and he noticed sawdust in one location at the base of this tree. As you would expect his prognosis was not good but told me I could try and spray with permethrin and wait to see what happens. By the way the tree looks fine, no dead limbs, full of leaves, etc.... I know I am asking a bunch of strangers on the internet but besides spraying with permethrin, is there anything else I can do to try and save this tree?? Anyone else had luck with something in the soil that the tree would draw up into the vascular tissue to kill off the borers?
