Quivering Aspen + Black Leaves

We live in SE Pennsylvania and recently (April) planted a 6' Quivering Aspen tree. We're watering the tree approximately 10 gallons a week (assuming no rain) and it seems to be largely doing okay (growing).

One thing that is confusing is that some of the leaves, on various branches, turn black/die. This can happen on branches that are exhibiting new growth and the tree otherwise seems healthy?

Anyone know the cause and if this is something we should be concerned about?

It may be aspen blight, a fungus called "Venturia macularis". It does mostly affect young aspens, so wait and see.

jumping to disease within 3 months of planting seems a bit much to me ... surely possible ... but i would look immendately to planting and watering ....

how in the world did you come up with 10 gallons of water???

water.. dig hole with hand trowel .. find out how water moves thru your soil ... and if its not moist down thru the root mass planted.. then you have a watering issue..

if its sodden.. you also have a watering issue ...

how big was it.. ball and burlap.. potted.. is it mulched ... any history other than black leaves .. including a pic.. will help us.. help you ..
