| This large water oak has water seeping from several spots around the trunk. A couple of months ago it had a bad smell and there were 100s of large red ants swarmed all over it. I sprayed the entire trunk with pesticide and they all died.
I'm thinking about having this taken down if it is dying. It's only about 12 feet from my house, and overhangs the corner of my house and backyard with several large branches. I hate to do it, but I think I should just take it down before it gets so bad that a branch falls on my house. |

| It's eventually going to split in half. I would get rid of it. |

| They have a lifespan of about 50-55 years. I have one that's that age in my yard and it's badly diseased and is coming down soon. The ants aren't the problem. The disease and/or pests that are causing the weeping is the problem, the ants are just taking advantage of it. There may be insects inside the trunk. Mine wept for a while, then big chunks of thick bark started falling off, exposing the diseased tree under the bark. I suggest you take it out, and plant something else there. |

| Those two trunks growing together like that is a disaster waiting to happen. |
