| My American Linden tree on the west side of our home is being attacked I think by something. The top 1/3 of the tree has leaves that have either fallen off or are still on but look like this:
The middle brown leaf also has a dark brown powder that you can brush off with your finger. Also pictured are some little worms I saw this morning, but I'm not sure the damage to the leaves are from that little critter. Can anyone help me save my tree? |

| Ah geesh.........The damage looks consistant to sawfly, and they are known to affect linden. I can't tell from the picture (would have to count the legs and where they are located) and there are so many different kinds of sawfly. Whatever they are, they are eating your tree leaves. The first impression of the black powdery stuff was sooty mold from aphids, also common on linden, because aphids like linden trees, but I don't think it is. I think it's just the detritis from the leaf damage from those larvae. If it's sawfly, they can defoliate half a small tree in a couple day's time. Ask me how I know. LOL. |
