Can you suggest a tree that...

Hi all. I'm looking to plant fast growing trees to shade a west-facing backyard. I'd like to find a good, fast-growing tree that will be fairly narrow (15-20') and about 40' tall. I'd thought of Lombardy Poplars but those seem to be too tall. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Maybe a poplar hybrid?

Eastern Red Cedar are very narrow, and produce berries birds like.

most fast to grow trees.. are fast to disease.. and fast to die.. in the mean time losing significant wood from height..

IMHO.. no such tree should be within 50 feet of a house ...

especially a poplar ...

juniper viginiana is invasive in some area.. and though native in others.. still aggressive in throwing seedlings everywhere ...

except for your need for speed.. you have given us no real facts.. to suggest alternatives ...
