| I purchased a weeping pussy willow from a local nursery and followed all of the directions in planting it... (Removed the burlap, and the wire casing, mended the soil with 1/3 peat moss) however I am afraid that it is in terrible shock.
It was crammed into the back of my SUV (leaves were covered) then was un-crammed on the way home. It has also been terribly hot here (90+) The people at the garden center said that it could not have too much water... but after reading some comments on here I am afraid I am over watering it. What should I do to help save this tree? Thanks for all of your help. |

| Right now, it needs to be watered as if it's still in the container. So make a small dike at the edge of the rootball, then fill that basin every day. Water the surrounding soil less often because the roots are out there as yet. And during the heat, consider rigging temporary shade. Several other things: |

| planting in z5 WI.. was proper in april.. or so .. so to say it is in shock.. planted in july .. near 100 degrees.. may be the understatement of the century.. at least this weeks .. for sure ... can you rig up any shade ... keep it watered at depth .. next time do NOT amend do not feed it.. and spray down the leaves every now and then to cool it off .. mostly just to make you feel better. get some proper mulch on it.. to cool the soil turn the pic so i dont break my neck.. and get a pic of where the trunk goes in the soil.. and tell us if you see the root flare ... you may have to replant it in fall ... if you planted it too deep ... if you had read many of the post.. in the last few weeks.. you may have seen the comment: just because you buy it in july/august... does NOT mean it time to plant it ... since your seller encouraged you.. i presume you have a warranty ... save the recpt ... keep it well watered AT DEPTH... and pray but it is a PW .. odds are.. even this might not kill it.. but it might look a little beaten down for a while ... ken |

| Just be aware...if you do manage to bring it out of shock, it might quit weeping. That's humor right there..........+oM |

| Most willows grow in very wet places. It probably is true, or at least close to true, that you can't really overwater it. |

| Was it exposed to a lot of wind on the way home? What did the rootball look like after removing the wire and burlap? Willows are tough. I think it will make it and be just fine in awhile. Mike |
