Tolerant plants for Juglan trees

Follow-Up Postings:

RE: Juglans

I've planted two white hydrangeas two yrs ago under our massive 4 black walnut trees. They died. So far my forsythia bush, day lilies, hostas and pachysandra are thriving. Not so much the cone flowers although so far so good. Also the bearded irises are just fine. I want more echinacea plants to naturalize that area since so few plants tolerate Juglan trees. Any good luck with cone flowers/echinacea from anyone?

RE: Juglans

Also my dogwood tree did not survive although planted some 30 ft away.

RE: Juglans

The lists on line if you google are somewhat random aren't they.

In my yard, peach, ash, redbud, eldeberry, cherry, and viburnum all pop up and grow in my walnut grove. Oh, and grape vine the cursed bush honeysuckle.

Don't plant ash though, EAB.
