Yuck

After mowing this morning I sat down in the pleasant shade of a red oak to cool off. On one twig all of the leaves had been skeletonized so I took a closer look and found these aptly named critters - slug sawfly. They skeletonize the leaves from the underside. In the sunlight hey glisten just like a transparent slug. Nasty looking!

I've seen those here, too. A few oaks have a brownish cast to their leaves, and upon close inspection, I saw those same bugs.

I've never seen any worms that small. I have seen them big fat yellowish/green ones before, I think they have yellow on them on their heads.

They look like good bird food.
