The potting soil looks a little dense and remember never to bury the root flare (check the croton on that as well), but these things aside there is no reason it can't remain happy in a pot for a good long while.

Go to the Container Gardening Forum here for hints on soil structure and other issues specific to growing in pots.

And good for you for going for it!!

Here is a link that might be useful: Container Gardening Forum

RE: I am crazy to buy this Mulberry Tree

it is a tree ..

they are not really made for pots ... but feel free to torture it for years .. [i have a persoanl hate for them]

you might want to browse bonsai material.. because they grow trees in pots...

should you kill it.. i can send you a couple million weeds from my garden .. lol.. i gotta tell you.. i chuckled at you spending money.. on something i kill with roundup by the hundreds.. lol ...

trees.. in general .. like a drink.. and then near full drainage .. your potting media is made for water loving indoor plants.. it will hold too much water.. long term ... for a tree ...

the easiest solution.. is for you to go buy a bag of cactus potting media.. that is perfect for trees ...

wet it first.. and then.. replant the tree ... and let it nearly dry.. in between waterings.. the media .. should never feel heavy nor wet.. except at watering ...

it is very very surprising .. how little water is needed for a tree .. in a pot ... do not kill it with too much love ...

good luck

let me know if you kill it.. lol

ps: i will be walking by my mulberry within the hour.. are you sure that is a mulberry leaf????

OMG ... i did not key in on the name and check ... Saudi Arabia!!! ..

welcome

i have at least 3 mature trees..

the kids love them to death..

i dont like the stem feel in my mouth ... and cant get over it ... so i do not eat them ...

my real hatred.. is that most of my trees are trimmed up high.. for walking and mowing grass under ... these i leave intentionally low.. for the kids to reach.. and i am very tortured by them when walking and riding ...

my soil is mineral sand.. a somewhat coarse sand.. perhaps you know about sand.. lol .. trees love sand.. its all about drainage.. that sip of water ... and then it all moves away ..

but i would never recommend.. sand in a pot ..

anyway..

good luck

ken

Can't say for sure, but the textured leaves look like Red mulberry. Are the leaves fuzzy like R mulberry?

If R mul, it's a much better tree than the exotic/invasive white mulberry.

Do we eat the mulberries? Sure. Problem is, it takes years for them to start producing, and birds get them before we do. I've had some volunteers along my fence for years, and have never seen a berry. I kill them, too, when they come up on the fence. These are native mulberries, which aren't as good as the imported ones. Don't expect to see mulberries for several years at least, after it's put into the ground.

If yours is a Persian mulberry, that's good, they are about 3-4" long!
