In college, my dendrology prof. taught our class that it was classified as a red oak, since then all Ive heard that it is a white oak. radio, web, tv, books, magazines, etc.... What do yall say? What are the characteristics of the tree, leaf, acorn that make it a white or red oak?
leafs have rounded lobes?
I can check the web for definitions, which Ive already have, but I would like to get your input.
Thanks

He might be confused and is thinking of Quercus marilandica. That's all I can figure. He is wrong.

It's definitely in the White Oak group.
