Leader tip of spruce tree dying

Have a 5 year old blue spruce. Been doing great. Just this week the peak seems to be dying. About a foot from top leader down all brown. We have had hot summer with little rain but I water at base regularly.

Probably Pissodes strobi weevil damage. The larvae bore out the pith of the lead shoot and kill it.

The tree will straighten up one of the top side branches to make a new leader.

Yes, it's common name is white pine weevil. In my area, it hits spruce *much* more often than pines.
