| The very top, 1.5 feet, of my Magyar ginkgo leader is severely curved and leaning. The tree was planted, by the city, in that condition. This spring I removed a thinner co-dominant leader, which was leaning in another direction, from the tree in hopes of straightening out the thicker leader. At this point, I'm considering leaving the tree to self-correct on it's own and hope for the best. But, if I can do something now to help the tree straighten out, it seems like that would be the best option for a good looking tree in the end.
I've been considering attaching a bamboo pole up the trunk all the way to the top of this tree to help straighten the tree this winter. Sort of a splint style rather than staking the tree. I would use tree wrap wrapped around the tree several times before finally wrapping the bamboo pole to attach said pole to tree. Does this sound like a good idea? I may tie a good size knot with the tree wrap to cushion the area between the pole and the tree trunk to keep the pole from rubbing against the tree. I've heard somewhere that ginkgo leaders are a little weak wooded and have a tendency to snap if stressed. Please let me know one way or another how you all think this problem should be managed. |

| Yeah, I'm usually no fan of splinting trees as you suggest you may do, but to really tell, we gotta see this. +oM |

| I'm considering leaving the tree to self-correct on it's own and hope for the best. ==>>> probably the way to go .. do add.. how big.. when planted.. etc ... have you tried talking with the city guy who planted it??? and finally.. a psyche question ... why do you need a perfectly straight tree ??? in nature .. they kinda grow every which way .. and sort themselves out ... but the issue is.. can you live with that?? ken |
