A shot in the dark may be bacterial leaf scorch. Devastating to pin oak. Green today, brown tomorrow. No cure.

Isn't bacterial leaf scorch a slow disease which usually works over a long period of time? At least, that's what I've seen from it so far. I guess it depends on the health of the host tree as well, but most Pins which get infected appear to slowly dwindle over several (many) years. My parent's got infected about 9-10 years ago and still lingers on, looking almost decent in June before starting to look atrocious by August. By October its bare, well ahead of schedule. But still, manages to leaf out the next spring, if not on quite so many branches.

Maybe a wilt of some sort? Gotta be something more rapid...

I went out this morning and look at the tree very closely. There are several branches that still have green leaves out towards the end of the branch run.

I am going to call the Penn State Agricultural Extension Program and see what they might have to offer on this.

Is Nevada a dry place? I have Never been there, but I think it is a dry environment. Pin oaks from the North-east like moist soil. Pin oak is a "slang" name for Quercus Palastris and Quercus Elipsoids, misspelled one of the names above. I THINK that you need to provide extra water.

I'm Sorry NH, My Pin oak is fine, I don't have a clue what in New Jersey would spark a weather or otherwise action to affect your Pin oak. I have 2 Pin oaks actually. I haven't done anything as far as maintenance. Maybe it is something simple, like the other Pins shading this one particular tree. Some branches may be shaded and after removal the other trees will be fine. I am guessing, because of lack of expertise in circumstances like this.
