Well, the leaves look too big for Chase Manhattan - it has leaves significantly smaller than the species and I don't think that they are as ruffled.

Remember the height on the tag refers to the height at a given period (generally 10 years) and remember it lived for some time before you bought it.

You might want to release it from bondage, also - that stake is rather tight and the trunk won't develop the strength it needs to unless it is allowed to sway with the wind.

Anybody have any thoughts on ID?

Ken - I couldn't even find it. I thought it didn't post. Sara had already answered me and I was summoning her in conifers. LOL

Thanks for your input, Sara! It is being planted today. It's not my tree....a landscaper friend of mine recognized it was labeled incorrectly and asked me for help in IDing it.

Per my post in the conifers forum, I still think its Jade Butterfly.

It may be more lanky and not as dense if grown in the shade.

Here is a leafless plant. It was 5' tall when it croaked. I had it in a spot that collected too much moisture and the rains this spring did it in.

Honestly though this is like sexing day old chicks! That was kind of the point of my CQ articles - this is the wild west with lots of vigilantes. The leaf size, shape and character (ruffled, deeply lobed, etc) should offer the best clues.
