Oh wow lol. I see walnuts stuck in tree crotches but have never noticed them getting encapsulated like that. Neat.

Thanks for sharing! That's really interesting to see. Is that at a golf course or in someone's yard? Most golfers I know are golf ball hawks and put every ball they find in their bag. I can't imagine a ball on a golf course being left in a tree long enough to become partially encapsulated!

I stuck the golf ball in the crotch of that Black Cherry about 3 or 4 years ago just to see what would happen.

I live close to a golf course, and there are always golf balls somewhere in my yard. My neighbor's grandson has permission to collect them when his father mows my lawn.

When the grandson was 7 or 8, he noticed a golf ball on a branch next to the trunk of an old Leyland cypress. The ball was at least 6' off the ground and was only noticeable from my pasture. So yeah, the golfers don't find them all.

IIRC, I knocked that ball off the branch with a rake so the grandson could add it to his collection.

MtO, most (but certainly not all) golfers respect private property boundaries if they are clearly marked and do not trespass to collect golf balls. The ones that do venture onto private property usually only make a brief scan for their lost golf ball and move on. There are not many who would go into someones yard and inspect tree branches for golf balls no matter how hard core their hawking skills!

In this case my instincts were correct, and this happened in someone's yard =)

That's a really cool photo. We lived about 10 years on a private golf course in Southern California, and we did get a lot of free golf balls! Some in odd places. Also our home got pitted here and there with balls. Many landed in our pool, but some in the courtyard, so the ball would need to go over the roof for that to happen.

And we had a ton of golfers come onto our property searching throughout the years.

We have now traded the golfers for a ton of gophers, and our entire front yard is a putting and pitching green. We have two pine groves and a few palms. I might try sticking a ball in the crotch of a pine and see what will happen.

Life off the golf course is a lot better than life on it.

You ruined the cool factor now that you said you put it there yourself!
