Skylands from the east and the west...fall and spring.

Figured I post an update on my three 'Skylands'. The heat has been rather intense (nothing compared to you enduring temps in the 100s) but none the less its a record breaker with heat and lack of rain. I'd consider myself an expert when it comes to watering so irrigation hasn't been a concern with any of the plants shown.

Specimen from the WEST coast, planted this spring. Shading put up in late May. Only very slight browning of the needles which is only noticed upon close inspection.

Yellow not as intense due to the shading.

Speimen #2 from the EAST coast. Planted in Fall 2011. No shading. Previous year needles have mostly fell in May. New growth to my surprise only has slight browning. Planted in full 11 hours sun. Fairly good yellow color.

Speimen #3 from the EAST coast. Planted in Fall 2011. No shading. Previous year needles have mostly fell in May. New growth showing a bit more browning than specimen #2. Planted in full 13 hours sun.

Just for fun here is a 'Walnut Glen' that is shaded. Starting to show some blue due to shading. Still gets full sun that is the yellow showing off at the tops.

Thats all I got. Back to my favorite past time activity...watering!

'Skylands very appropriate for this forum. What am I missing here?

Do they have a watering forum?

Should not drop any needles is shaded correctly. Forget about color when acclimating.

You really should put shade cloth on the two others. I'd do it for at least two years if not three or four. First one is bling.

1, 2 and done. Just shaded the other two. I probably would have just left them if you didn't say anything Dax.

I had some time this morning and seeing that its approaching 100 tomorrow thats a no win situation for these plants fully exposed.

No fireworks and sitting inside for the 4th...what a blast!
