What kind of fungus is this?

The backstory... In 2009 the city that I live in was offering katsuras as a street tree. Considering the cost, there were few to no takers. Being an election year, the city planted a bunch anyway at no charge in the name of beautification. Well, they lasted long enough to get the mayor re-elected but ultimately around 75% of them died. I don't think katsuras have been tried as a street tree in my area so I wasn't surprised. Pollution, dog pee, asphalt heat and sidewalk salt in the winter are all rough on the street trees around here. The katsuras that are left seem to be doing well so maybe they can cut it after all albeit only after being babied until they get established. I noticed one of them had some leaves turning brown so I gave it a drink this morning but noticed the mushroom in the tree pit with the tree. If it's one of those ganodermas or another type indicating fatal root rot I won't bother trying to save it. No drought conditions here. It's been a little dry and it's raining right now.

Thanks for your help.

Sorry about that. I could swear the pic was there when I previewed the original message.

A little hard to tell from the pic, but could be a slime mold-of no consequence to the tree.
