| Hello,
My tree and I need your help. Something is killing it, I've included a picture. I'm not sure what kind of tree it is, but it is a weeping type. I think there are little bugs on it, but I also have found a number of snails on it. Thank you,

| It's a weeping ornamental cherry that needs a granular, insect, systemic, applied and watered in, as per the directions on the label. The pests appear to be scale. Dax |

| it also looks like it needs a bit of pruning.. to remove the deadwood.. which is common on this kind of tree ... and 'killing' is a bit overly dramatic ... those leaves look awful green and lush for being killed .. put another way.. this is a high maintenance tree.. requiring a lot pf pruning .. to look its best .. it looks like it is dying.. because you have not pruned it ... though scale MIGHT kill it.. the odds are long on that ... unless the bark was completely covered in them ... the little knobs on the leaf itself are not scale.. but the coffee buzz is not allowing me to name them.. lol.. they go away when the leaf falls off .. cosmetic ... ken |

| Ken is right that this is a high maintenance tree :-) Weeping ornamental cherries are disease magnets in the PNW and a diseased tree attracts insect pests - they just seem to radiate vulnerability. A lot of the bare ends show evidence of brown rot, which plagued virtually every flowering cherry in the area due to our excessively wet spring. They should be removed as well as any other dead wood. The systemic will help with any insect problems now but you should consider dormant spraying and a fungicide early next spring to avoid (or at least delay) continuing fungal and bacterial issues. FWIW, these tend to be rather short-lived trees here......and often with an even shorter period of attractiveness :-) |
