Ring the doorbell. VERY few people would be upset to have someone knock on their door and ask about a tree in their yard. It has happened to us...not only about a tree or plant, but what kind of roof shingles! We've both knocked on someone's door to find out the name of a plant...half the time we end up walking away with a cutting, cone, seeds, etc.

If the owners of this tree doesn't know about the tree, offer to find out for them. Take pictures of the leaves, bark, and any other identifying features and post them here.

Probably either a weeping cherry or weeping mulberry. I say cherry based on what I can tell from the photo.

Yup, either ring the doorbell and ask, or get a telephoto lense.

most likely.. it was perfectly sited when the house was built.. based on the presumption that the tree would never grow another inch in its life.. instant gratification perhaps ...

was there a sweeping driveway on the other side of the privet/boxwood???? .. perhaps limiting proper placement???

Thanks so much. I realized my friend has the same tree and she thinks it's a weeping cherry and it has pink flowers in the spring. Most of the weeping cherries I have seen are much smaller than this, more of an accent. Which variety gets this large?

I am going to take a ride back up there this weekend and see if they know.

I agree it's planted too close to the house. There isn't a sweeping driveway behind those bushes but there is a sidewalk that leads to the driveway that is on the right side of the house.

Not a large example, most kinds get bigger than one shown. But the biggest growing types are not much on the market anymore. Plan on 15'-35' for one not on dwarfing rootstock.

I was wondering if anyone knows what kind of trees are in the picture I've posted?
