Help, My Tree is Dying! Verticillium Wilt?

Hi all,

We have two large, beautiful catalpa trees in our yard. Within the last two weeks one of them has started to lose a lot of leaves and has dead branches 3/4 of the way up towards the top of its crown. The leaves have been wilting, then yellowing, turn brown and die. I think it may have verticillium wilt, but I am not 100% sure. Is this normal behavior in a catalpa tree?

We have only lived at our new home for a couple of months. I am worried that if it is verticillium wilt that there is nothing that can be done to save the tree. If we cannot save it, should we cut it down asap so that it does not infect the other catalpa tree that is nearby, as well as a box elder that is also close to it? Or should we leave the tree in for another season and see what it does? I am just concerned that if we wait too long, the other trees will have a greater chance of becoming infected. Thank you for your help.
