Dwarf weeping mulberry

Hi All, I have what I think is a dwarf weeping mulberry. I love it (my husband doesn't). The issue is that it has been slowly tipping it over. It's always been at a bit of an angle since we lived here, but after 10 years, its really gotten pretty bad.
We finally decided to try and fix the poor thing or die trying. We've got a anchor stake, and a wire and we're trying to pull it back into an upright state

So my questions are:
1. Is this really what I think it is?
2. Does this have a chance of working?
3. Is there anything else you'd do to try to help it move? I was thinking about spading around the trunk if that would help, but I don't know.

I'm going to hopefully add some pics in replies so you can see what I have/what we've done.

looks like mulberry to me ...

since you already have plans on a replacement ... then you are going into this with the right frame of mind ...

personally.. i would not have wasted the money on the hardware ...

i doubt if you are going OT find someone who says.. affirmatively.. that it will work ....

finally ... i would have enjoyed it for the oddity it was.. rather than forcing my own aesthetic on it... i could have sent you an application for the WEIRDER THE BETTER CLUB .... as i am the founder and current president ...

BTW .... if you spade around.. wont you disturb your anchor stake?

I don't think it'd disturb the anchor stake too much, and we'll have to move it at some point; right now it's pretty close to the trunk. I have been enjoying the tree so far, but it just keeps get closer and closer to horizontal, which I assume isn't really good for it. Plus the branches grow out onto the deck the way it is now. Drives the husband crazy!

thanks for your thoughts! We'll keep trying, and if it doesn't make it I'll get a new one, possibly in a better location!

the heck with the stake...

here is what i would do ...

in October.. after it losses its leaves.. dig it up.. and replant it straight.. and trim off whatever does not allow such ...

it either lives or dies ...

if i had a nickle to bet.. it was severely root bound from a pot.. and was improperly planted.. and the roots really never went out into the native soil ... and as such.. it has nothing to anchor itself upright ..

do you have clay soil .. per chance???

i wish you luck.... get rid of it.. when it losses its appeal ....

ps: really now.. if it cant anchor itself upright .. then of what purpose is it for you.. to pull it back to plumb.. wont it just keep falling over ????

How'd you guess? We have clay soil you could make pots with right out of the ground, I think.

Maybe we'll try that too- at this point, I'm guessing it couldn't hurt. If that is the case (pot bound), hopefully we can encourage it to spread its roots in a new location.
