Tree for a patio near a pool

I intend to add a pool and patio to my back yard over the winter---my second home by the Delaware shore--warmer than DC. I would like a small tree just to provide a bit of shade. I like the idea of a mimosa because of the fern-like foliage. But I have read enough to know that would be a mistake.

Is there another small tree with fern-like foliage and a spreading habit? The threadleaf Japanese maple Seiryu (or something like that) would not get big enough fast enough.

Any tree close to a pool will drop leaves, etc in the pool. Nearly all Japanese maples require shade and the worst this you could plant is a mimosa. Have had a pool for 25 years.

IMHO.. include a pergola in the cost/design.. and forget about leaf-dropping trees near a pool ...

Thanks for the advice. I did a quick google image search for pergolas and found some really nice looking structures. Now all I have to do if find some nice flowering vines to cover. Madevillia or passionflower perhaps.
