 o
Tree ID: Cherry?

This "volunteer" tree looks to be in the cherry family.

I first noticed it about 2 years ago.

Can anybody narrow it down a bit more for me?

I think that is Buckthorn, not cherry.

Just looked it up. Major bummer :-( Pretty tree, going gangbusters on a sandy/rocky hill with full sun all day long. Gonna cut it down and give the stump a sip of 40% glyphosate.

Its allelopathic tendencies might explain the recent demise of some plants in the near vicinity: Yucca, privet, iris, hibiscus...

Ditto on the European Buckthorn

Yeah, it sure looks like buckthorn.

I just did a closer inspection and found small thorn of end of some twigs.

Also picked a berry and dissected it. See pix.

Here is a link that might be useful: buckthorn fruit
