| I have a possible final diagnosis on my dogwood. It is definatly 100% transplant shock that is unfortunatley getting a little worse( thank god fall is around the corner ) and maybe a 5% bit of anthracnose that im not worried about...yet. Buds are setting on the tree now, ive done a count and have counted 70-80 leaf buds and 60-65 flowerbuds.
My Questions~:~ 1)the leaves are turning brown, weve had a drought but we are getting rain every week now, i don't water (i know don't scold me i have no time anymore) as much, ive looked around the mulch and found some nice white roots growing up, im wondering if in spring will it recover and not have the transplant shock( the red-browning leaves ) and would have nice dark green leaves. 2) I removed some of the leaves (discolored ones) and the broken branches for air circulation, what is my next step to ensure the transplant actually fully takes its new environment. It took in may, but with the 100+ degrees some roots have dried, and some leaves got scorched becuase i wanted it planted in full sun. Sorry but I have one more thing to add, I lost a whole possible 3rd branching system do to the heat and full sun, I dont appear to see any leaf/flowering buds. Will any form with none or should I just cut the possible dead branch off? PS--- I have a few pictures I took a week ago, but this week i wasnt able to and some more leaves turned red and brown, luckily the buds setted in before the leaves started to defoliate. | water is the ONLY imperative thing.. and you have to insure.. not just some misting of the soil surface.. but MOISTURE.. at depth thru the root zone .. if you water deeply.. and mulch properly.. there is most likely no reason you have to do that job more than once a week.. or just about every second week.. in fall .. i dont have time to do the whole tutorial.. others will if you ask them to elaborate on such ... it basically involves digging a small whole.. say 3 to 5 inches down.. TO FIND OUT .. if you are actually getting sufficient water at depth otherwise.. you just wait until next year.. to see how it rebounds.. but you cant make excuses for the watering ... it really is the ONLY important thing ... ken |
