| Which of these would you pick?
I can't have two, so I have to make a choice. |
Follow-Up Postings:
|
| If you want a weeping form, get 'Autumn Cascade'. If you don't, get 'Wildfire'. |
|
| What esh said. Except I personally would sub Red Rage for wildfire. I like the intensity of the green leaves, and the red fall color cant be beat. Arktrees |
|
| If you move away from weeping and can't decide between Red Rage and Wildfire, perhaps this will help. http://forums2.gardenweb.com/forums/load/trees/msg1108125930132.html |

| The new growth on Wildfire has quite a bit of red to its new growth. Almost like some crabapples. Even small it is a focal point. (but if you do not want red that ia not great) Nyssa has been difficult for me to transplant but I like them so much I keep trying. My recommendation is to plant correctly and at the right time. |

| Tornado, you say you keep trying.. do you purchase your trees somewhere where there's a guarantee if they die (provided you planted correctly)? What's the right time for you, late fall? I'm not thinking of one this year, I see beautiful ones at nursery...I've lost 2 and they are expensive... do they tolerate part shade and clay? Amy |

| nyssa sylvatica - great plant go for the native species with a seed source close as possible to your location to be sure it is hardy |

| Amy, I typically buy $20 smaller trees. The companies actually list a warranty but I would feel like a heel trying to claim it when I either picked out or they sent a perfectly fine tree which is just a difficult transplant for me. I am just funny that way I suppose. Fall is my favorite planting time but I feel safe with late winter/early spring as well. |

| Thanks Tornado, I know EXACTLY what you mean about feeling like a heel!!! I'm same way, thus lost a lot of money too...but pride.. You're not funny, you're ...like me.. Where do you in your area find such small trees? At that price? I kinda gave up on online... and garden centers around here are into the $60 plus... thanks for replying..take care! Enjoy the fall!! |
