Really, what harm could they do? OK, they eat the foliage of just about any member of the rose family, but so do alot of caterpillars.
I suspect that these may be demonic, you never find them, they find you. Do you know what they do when they find you? Do you know what they're called?

They are Sibine stimulea and make wonderful pets. Pet one and let me know if you don't agree.

Those are truly demonic! I think they end up being a moth. If you want to keep some to find out, wear heavy gloves if you have to handle them. I brushed against one when I was a child, it was just below my neck, and it's a sensation I'll never forget.

Known by the common name of Saddle Back caterpillar, and they pack a very, very powerful sting. I had a crew of nursery employees threaten to walk off the job when we had a small outbreak on my nursery. I ended up getting zapped myself and it truly felt like someone had shot me in the arm with a small weapon.

The moth is quite unique, as are many of this group of stinging caterpillars.

Beautiful cats and some are lovely moths when they 'grow up'. My mate found one when gardening last year, and thankfully asked me to look at it before it was touched. They seem to be attracting more attention this year than usual, and I suspect their populations are up for some reason.

Their sting is very painful. Often I find them on the UNDER side of a leaf which is why I get stung before I see them. They are also a generalist so they are found on a variety of host plants - I have found them on birch (Betula) as well as blueberry and rose family plants as you say.

Never seen those before, but the bristly IO moth caterpillar has nasty stings too.
