I have the chance to purchase a 25 foot tall pin oak still in a container. It has no branched out at all, the sellers assured me it will spread/branch out after I planted it, is that correct and how long will it take to reach standard proportions-it is looking pretty odd at the moment.
Follow-Up Postings:

Ask if you can have them lift it out of the container (which the planters would have to do before planting anyway) so that you can observe the great likelihood of a super concentration of girdling roots that would have to be removed. Then consider the effect of removing them from the tree. Sounds like a waste to me. A 25' tree in a container? Been there a long time. hortster

I'd also pass on the tree if I were you and get a smaller specimen. Terrancee

A 25' Pin Oak which hasn't spread? I'm curious exactly what you mean, but is doesn't sound good.

a 25 foot tree.. should come balled and burlapped .. with a minimum of a 3 foot rootball.. if not spaded directly out of mother earth ... with a very large tree spade ... i would not simply walk away ... i would run ... ken
Here is a link that might be useful: is the pot at least this big????

Not worth the trouble.
